Meg Jensen

Instructor

Hi y'all! I'm Meg and I am the face behind the Quality Quilt Co. brand. Once upon a time, I was a kindergarten teacher. After having babies, and them becoming school-aged, we decided it was right for our family to homeschool. Prior to this prestigious position within the Jensen household, I have been quilting and sewing for 11+ years. Then, because I don’t like to be bored and I wanted to quilt my own quilts with a longarm, I decided to start a longarm quilting business. Even though I started for somewhat self-focused reasons, now I have a business that offers people quality, affordable, and quick quilting services both locally to Green Bay, WI and Nationally. In September 2021, I moved my business from my home to a commercial brick and mortar space where I’ve added a second longarm quilting machine. I LOVE sewing and quilting SO much! It began as a therapeutic outlet when our oldest son passed away at the age of one from a terrible and unexpected accident. It brings me such joy to pass on this happy past time with future generations. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me. Happy Sewing, Meg

This course is wonderful for me as a beginner. It gave me not only the knowledge but the confidence and I was able to complete my first quilt top. It compiled all of the knowledge a new quilter needs into a single course and I knew it was accurate information and I could trust it. The content was easy to understand and it made it so you could walk through it right along as you did the videos. It wasn't so complicated that it makes you confused with too much information or different techniques like online videos were doing to me. Other online videos were making me anxious about learning to quilt. The instructor has a calming voice and kept the videos concise and to a single technique for beginners. I have sewn before but learned about machines, needles, and fabric in this course also. If you visit the FB student group you will see photos of my 1st ever completed quilt top. I can't thank this course enough for giving me the confidence and information to go from sewing simple small craft projects to being a real "quilter." I am starting my 2nd quilt top with more complex patterns next. I hope the course continues to grow and adds more intermediate and advanced quilting modules soon.

I found this course to be very helpful to a beginner (or even a seasoned sewer) with the amount of history of fabrics, detail on thread types etc. Meaghan shared so much very valuable insight into the WHY of everything we need to do besides just instructions in what to do. We covered every aspect of sewing from designing your sewing space, to the tools you need, to understanding fabric, thread, cutting piecing and quilting techniques. I highly recommend the course to others whether a beginning sewer or a more experienced one. Everyone will learn something new here!!

I really enjoyed the A to Z class and learned a lot from revisiting basic ideas like planning your sewing setup and how fabric is made and how to work with it! It was fun to put these ideas into practice making a quilt top. The videos included helpful examples of the process - one addition I'd be interested in would include seeing fabric examples of tension issues. I'd recommend the course to sewists who want to learn or revisit the basics of quilting to improve their technique! The class inspired me to move my sewing setup in my home to be more optimized.

  • What materials will I need?

    - A sewing machine and the basic supplies that go with it. **I will be teaching you about these items, so you may want to wait to make any purchases after you've taken the first portion of the class** - Rotary cutter, acrylic ruler (a good starter one I recommend is 6" x 24"), and self healing mat (I recommend a 24 x 36) - Fabric (you can use scraps to practice the techniques or follow along with my custom pattern) - If you plan to practice Quilting / Free Motion Quilting with me, a FMQ foot or walking foot. The other option is to use a Longarm Quilter (more on that in the course)
